Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use this website and to hire a pub from us, whatever technology you browse with. This page sets out what we have done, what we know is not finished, and how to tell us when something does not work.

What we aim for

We build this site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. We should be straight with you: the site has not been independently audited, so we describe this as the standard we work towards rather than one we claim to have certified.

What the site does

• Keyboard navigation. Every menu, link, form field and button can be reached and operated with a keyboard, and the element you are on shows a visible gold focus outline.
• Screen readers. Pages use real headings and landmarks in a logical order, the page language is declared, and controls that show only an icon carry a text label.
• Images. Photographs carry alternative text; purely decorative graphics are hidden from assistive technology so they are not read out as noise.
• The photo gallery. Opens in a native dialog, so focus stays inside it, Esc closes it, and the arrow keys move between images. Closing it returns you to the thumbnail you opened.
• Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the fade-ins, parallax and hover animations are switched off and content simply appears.
• Forms. Every field has a label, optional fields say so, and errors are announced rather than shown by colour alone.
• Without JavaScript. All content remains readable — animated sections stay visible rather than never appearing.

Known limitations

We would rather tell you these than have you discover them:

• Some gallery photographs currently carry generic alternative text. We are replacing the placeholder images with our own, and will write proper descriptions when we do.
• Our contact forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to block automated spam. It is designed to run without any puzzle to solve, but it is a third-party component we do not control. If it ever blocks you, please call or email us instead — we will never turn away an enquiry because of it.
• Parts of the site use gold text on dark green. We believe the combinations we use are legible, but some decorative text is deliberately low-contrast. If any of it is hard for you to read, tell us and we will change it.
• The site has not yet been tested with every screen reader and browser combination.

Tell us about a problem

If you hit something that does not work — a control you cannot reach, text you cannot read, anything at all — email [email protected] with the page you were on and what happened. It genuinely helps, and we will aim to reply within five working days.

We treat accessibility problems as faults to be fixed, not requests to be considered.
